Jamie's Italian
your comments review this restaurant
Food was tasty (raviloi stuffed with slow roasted lamb and ricotta cheese in a tomato and basil sauce) but the portions were a bit stingy for the price. It's a bit tight not offering a bit of bread or some olives before the meal and it would have made it more of a eating out experience. We only had the main course which took 5mins to turn up and about the same to eat. So it felt a bit like the restaurant had a revolving door. The service was good/efficient but a little bit false like the staff had done a customer service course and were told to end every sentence with "you guys".

Visited Jamies Italian Cardiff during graduation week, sad to say I agree that the food was overpriced rubbish. No wonder the kids think his food is rubbish too.

I knew from the first sip of my house red, something was lacking in this place and the wine was certainly a true reflection of the poor quality of this establishment.
Service is slow, meals are nothing to write home about, so I won't write home about the piece of plastic in one of the meals, the meat sauce that had the audacity to name itself bolognese along with something that vaguely resembled carbonara.
I feel sorry for the kids who eat his school dinners if this restaurant is anything to go by.
I certainly will not be returning.

No thanks, not for me!
I'm vegetarian and all that prosciutto hanging BY THE BAR (near by glasses) cover up in little drops of melting fat is not a good thing to look at. My friend is not a vegetarian and was disgusted as well. Not sure how Health and Safety allowed it.
Sorry not for me at all

On reading the above comment (and several other on various sites) I decided I would also leave my two pence worth.
I have been to Jamies italian on numerous occasions and each one I has been without a doubt ten times more impressive than any other restaurant in cardiff. The food is absolutely outstanding (baked mushrooms and the lamb lollipops being my personal favourites) and the staff are absolutely fabulous. I, personally have never been in a restaurant where each and every one off the staff are smiley and actually look happy to be at work?! I thought it really added to the great informal, friendly athmosphere.
In the few time I have eaten at Jamies I have grilled the waitress's about the food, the origin and the freshness and how it is cooked and its clear that they are very highly trained and can answer nearly any question...im sure it natural for not everybody to know every little thing about each dish (re. above and the starter). The food is extremely reasonably priced considering it origins and th high quality. Yes, if you want to 'wander in for a cheaper relaxed meal' (again re. above) somewhere else, i.e. pizza express, wetherspoons its very true there are 101 other places but i dont believe anywhere else you would get the same high quality food at such good prices- bearng in mind these are real authentic family italian companies rather than cash and carry frozen food!
Anyway, as i have said I have repeatedly been back to Jamies and I would like to stick up for what is my favourite Cardiff restaurant, and as far as I can see, after 5 months of opening there is STILL a queue and having enquired to one of the host's many ar elike me and are regulars so yes (re. above) after the hype of Jamie OLiver people still believe in the great restaurant.
I think the negative press is people entering with such high expectations of a Celebrity chef fine dining faultless restaurant and thats not what this is meant to be about- its rustic and friendly and Jamie all over.I cant help feeling that people only bother to comment on the negative things!
So, Jamies im sticking up for you- you deserve it! keep up the great work and il spread the word!!

Oh dear, I really wanted to like this place. I've been to the Brighton branch a few times and was excited to see a branch open in Cardiff.
Unfortunately Mr Oliver seems to be running the risk of letting his standards slip in the rush to expand his empire. The service at the Brighton restaurant is faultless, Unfortunately, the night we went in Cardiff it was amateur. For example, when I pointed out to our waiter that a basic ingredient was missing from my starter he went to ask someone (?) and then came back laughed and said, yes, and they'd made the same mistake with the last order as well. Smooth.
The food was ok but not great.. The problem with Jamie's is that it's not a cheap evening out and you can't book a table. So once the hype has died down the place has to be good enough to keep customers coming back when there are 101 other places they could wander in to for a relaxed and cheaper meal. At the moment Jamie's doesn't have the edge.
Finally, I hope they reconsider their music policy. Rock music seemed a strange, noisy choice.
