Tuesday, October 14, 2008 - You can really feel the love that's gone into The Promised Land. With a name like that, what else would you expect? Opened by Nick Davidson and Alan Savory in the spot that Benedicto's Italian restaurant used to occupy, this new Cardiff bar has got a vibe that you can't help but warm to.

After reading the website's inviting description of the Promised Land, it sounded ideal for what I needed - a celebration of my parents-in-law 40th Ruby Wedding Annivesary. We wanted somewhere to eat before we went on to more celebrations in Cardiff. I wanted to find somewhere that sold good pub food - and thought I'd found it here! We were a large group of 15 so I rang the Wednesday before we went (which was the following Sunday) to give our orders to them.

Arriving at the pub, we were the only group eating as it was 4.15ish so they were not busy. The food arrived - well some of it and we were informed by the waitress that the rest would soon be with us. It came out in dribs and drabs. My brother-in-law had ordered a well done steak that came out bloody and by the time they'd cooked another one we'd all finished eating. I thought the food was enjoyable when it finally appeared, I had the Carribean Chicken Curry which was nice, my husband enjoyed his steak but the whole affair was marred by the slow service. The two girls working behind the bar we very helpful and apologetic and couldn't have done enough. It was unfortunately the inept chefs that were to blame.

We had a day off work on Friday and went shopping for flip flops for our up coming holiday and called in to The Promised Land for a late lunch. The Summer Salad promotion caught our eye. I had the Duck and Blackberry and the Mrs had grilled Goats Cheese. £8 for the two, good value. The wine list looks good although we never got past the lovely french house white. Two bottles later and after enjoying some great music and nice feel good friday atmos we picked up our shopping and headed off on our own journey. Good place, we'll be back for post work drinks when the holiday is over
