Gios at The Mill

Had a meal on Saturday 27th March to celebrate engagement.
Excellant atmosphere, very intimate atmosphere. Did not book but the lovely lady at the door managed to find us a table and even made sure our order went in beford a large party, so we did not have to wait.
The portions of pasta were more than generous and very tasty, but meant no room left for pudding!
The sparklers and cocktails finished off the evening.
Would recommend to everyone

This weekend we went to Gios Mill Lane and had a lovely meal. The atmosphere was brillant and the food was amazing. I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends but not only was it a lovely restaurant, me and my partner had a chance to go for a cocktail.
It was a chilled out relaxing bar in the basement, the bartenders were accomindating and there had a long list of cocktails to chose from. Me and my partner are more mutare than the crowd there is around on the weekend so this bar was perfect for us!

First time - AND Last! Went before a concert and ordered in good time. And then waited. And waited. Following several reminders to the waiting staff, the food arrived. It was probably nice - but there was no time left to enjoy it. And the only time the ordered garlic bread appeared was on the bill!

Wish I had found Gio's sooner, one of the best restaurants I've been to since being in Cardiff. Wonderful.

I haven't been in Cardiff for very long and it is so it difficult to know where is good to eat and where is not.
I don't like chains restaurants so I thought I would try some of the more traditional looking restaurants. I discovered Gios when I was shopping in John Lewis I was amazed by the stand of service and the quality of food.
Previously living in the centre of London I am use to a high standard of eating out Gios matched any restaurant that I had visited in London.
I ordered a Gios Pizza, which was a delight it had everything you could possible, want on a Pizza, chicken, onions, meatballs, bolognaise sauce it was a definite must. My partner ordered a penne pasta in a chilli sauce he was very impressed with the flavours and it was just the right temperature.
Overall we had a very pleasant experience and we plan on making Gios a regular occasion. As it has it all polite tentative staff, good food and a really good atmosphere!!!!!!!

First a caveat: This meal was taken during the opening weekend of John Lewis and as such the restaurant was extremely busy; however that is still no excuse for the experience.
We were sat at a small table indoors near the front windows. I had to ask for our table to be set and menus given as we had been forgotten about. The myriad of service staff did not seem to have set areas to oversee and as such both our and the neighbouring table were asked repeatedly the same questions by umpteen staff (however copious service is better than no service).
Next, possibly to cater for the Saturday crowd, the most grating faux traditional Italian music was being blasted through speakers right over our heads. I had to ask for the music to be turned down as the volume was just right to cause my partners chair to vibrate and my head to cringe with each swoon.
Next the food, I ordered a chicken salad and my partner ordered pizza. When they queried whether it would be possible to amend the toppings (the menu options were either bland or so chocked full with ingredients that a sensible selection was impossible) she was met with a stare of shock from the waiting staff.
Eventually they offered to put pepperoni on a margherita (shockingly adventurous). Our neighbours food was incorrect (they having waited a good while for the food) prompting much apologising from the management and a rather hasty swap to the correct salad, raising a question about why it took so long in the first place. When our food came it was easy to say that the north sea had less oil than our selections. My chicken salad was limp with the weight of the olive oil and my partners pizza may as well have been a £1 job from a supermarket for all the flavour it exuded. There are plenty of equally priced restaurants in Cardiff serving better quality food than this.
We didn't stay for dessert as the mixture of loud music, slow service and mediocre food has resigned Gio's to the "well if we must" category of future dining options.

I visited Gios on 6th April with my 80 year old mother. We were attracted by the £8.95 lunch menu("shoppers crunhcy menu").We made an excellent choice..the starter of risotto was excellent (almost a patch on one I had at Jamies's 15 London, when it first opened ). My mums salmon with hollandaise main course was superb, she had queried if it came with lots of veg (it didn't but was actually fine with the salad garnish etc) , however, the very friendly waitress bought her a whole bowl of steaming fresh veg.Every thing was fresh.
The service was friendly and we were so full we couldn't eat later in the evening.
For two excellent courses each and three beers the bill was just over £20. Only dodgy things are the toilets that are a real trek up loads of stairs but I think they are being refurbished. They are clean tho'.
I'd return!
