Bully's Restaurant

I am suprized to see the last review as my experience was without question the best dining experience I havve had in a long time. The food was absolutely faultless!! Not only that the wine list was extensive and supported the menu and the staff were so attentive. The owner took time to describe all of the menu to us and we weren't rushed at all throughout our meal. This restaurant is only a few minutes out of the city (by taxi) and is definately worth a special visit to cardiff! Do not be put off by the previous review and try it yourself. I have only been once but will definately be back!

Main course awful -fish plate grey and un-appetising, pork was tender but had no flavour whatsoever! At no time did anyone ask if we enjoyed our meal!

Friendly - yes. Good food - maybe.
The food is iffy - and for the cash, less than iffy. I recall a foie gras starter with a dessert spoon of it for about £15. It came with brioche that seemed to me to have been bought from a supermarket, and even then it was not fresh!
Service is, at best irratic. No bread served to my table, despite having been promised so. The same for the matching entree wine.
Such a shame as there is potential in this little neightbourhood restaurant. Some more attention to detail with both food and service would justify the, lets face it, substantial bill.
Sorry to any fans out there, and sorry to russel and the team. Please try harder. Please do. Cardiff needs what you CAN be. What you are is close,

After reading many reviews on how great this restaurant is, we finally went. Must say didn't feel it lived up to its reputation. We had none of the sonnet reading of the menu - just a board of special starters on the blackboard and a menu. When paying the sort of prices charged think you could at least have expected a cotton napkin, not just a flimsy paper tissue of sorts. The carpet on the entrance to the restaurant is well overdue for replacement and the table was really sticky.
Would have overlooked all of these thing's if the food had been that great - have to say the starters were lovely but the main course and pudding were just o.k. Maybe our expectations were too high? We also didn't expect the chef to be entertaining his friends at the end of our meal.
The bill was sixty pounds a head, so for us this was not good value for money.

No contest - our favourite restaurant! We have been to many of others and none have even come close to the perfect mix of delicious food, wonderful atmosphere, helpful, friendly staff - all without the slightest hint of any kind of pretention that is sometimes apparant in restaurants of this class and quality.
We have never eaten a bad meal there - and we have had many!!! Be warned - it's not cheap but worth every penny! We don't even live in Cardiff anymore, but it is our first choice for a special occasion - you have to try it!
