very disappointing on a number of levels we wouldn't return here. we were part of a birthday supper party and not only was the service slow and distinctly unhelpful (particularly when ordering jugs of tap water - necessary for the unpleasant level of salt in the food!)

the food was ok - just ok ...nothing special and so so salty - the only generous portions were rice. the flavours were ok - but predominantly salt and sugar.

The main impression I would leave with is rudeness, and the staff all seemed miserable. I am pretty sure why as any restaurant which has so little goodwill that they wanted to charge a surcharge of 1.50 per cupcake to serve the birthday girl cakes which she had brought with her is probably a miserable place to work.

As a big fan of Thai food and having visited Thailand a few times I had high expectations of Thai House. The restaurant itself is lovely - large, nicely decorated and with a good atmosphere. DO make sure that you book a table in the main building. They have an annex which looks like a portacabin with tables touching each other and zero ambience.

As a vegetarian, I expect most restaurants to appreciate that this does not involve eating fish. I was very disappointed to have a Thai vegetarian salad, sent back instantly as it tasted of scampi fries roasted in fish oil and laced with haddock. The main course (tofu curry) was fine, but consisted of very little apart from said Tofu (very few vegetables in sight!) and was overtly salty. My friend enjoyed a nice prawn dish but also noted that it consisted of very little apart from prawns.

Desserts were much better - with home made Thai dishes as opposed to the deep fried / bought in nonsense served in other establishments. However, if you want a fine Thai meal in Cardiff, I would suggest THAI THAI on Four Elms Road. This place did not live up to my expectations despite very fine service and a lovely building.

First, they confused the booking dates and as we arrived, we were seated in a private room and thus forced to order a set menu with prices varying from £20-50. The quality of the food and wine was average and even quantity could not make up for it as we shared plates between 4 or even 5 people. As they realized that we were a birthday party, they served a complimentary desert to the birthday boy, which we all found pretty nice.Surprisingly, that desert turned up on the bill. All in all, very disappointing and even the silver-spoon service and decent atmosphere can not make up for this, all in all, rip-off. Will not go there again and would not recommend it further.
