Ended our first visit to Cardiff with a dinner at this restaurant on 13 November. We had peri peri Chicken expecting something special from a Portuguese Restaurant. It was awful! A pre-cooked dry and touch chicken breast arrived on a plate 'dressed' in what can only be described as a thin layer of peri peri paste smeared on top of it with some lettuce on the side. A dish of very oily chips duly arrived but no sight of the promised vegetables. To crown it all they had the audacity to add a 10% service charge! Cardiff 10/10 and I won't let this spoil my visit.

Had a very nice night last night at Porto's Due and thought was the best restaurant in town as all the new places dont give you that homely feeling. Food was great, staff are not too pushy to sell and not rushed.

Had our Christmas get together at Portos last night after previously spending the last four Christmases at the Madeira Restaurant (Guildhall Place) a big mistake.

We couldnt all sit together at one table which was disappointing and our table was booked for 9.30 p.m. even though we had pre-ordered our starters they were ages arriving and the seafood cocktail could have been fitted on a saucer! The garlic mushrooms were not cooked enough.

The main course arrived at approximately 11 p.m. and I must admit my fish was satisfactory however others who had ordered meat said it was very dry and the chips had to be sent back as they hadnt been cooked enough. We did also note someone on another table complaining and so it wasnt just us.

Bread arrived without butter and coffee without milk.

Staff appeared to do their best but overall a very disappointing restaurant I for one wont be going back there!!!!

Before last night, I hadn't been to Portos for over ten years. It was reassuring to note that the decor hadn't changed at all since my last visit. Hopefully, the high standards of the past would also be maintained.

We arrived at 7.50. They couldn't find our booking - but no matter as they found us a table.

After 10 minutes they took our drink order and after 20 minutes they came to take our food order. The house red I'd ordered arrived at this point and it was DELIGHTFUL. My wife had a similar reaction to her white wine. And the garlic bread appetiser was lovely.

A good thing because it then took between 20 and 25 minutes for our starters to arrive.

By now it should be fairly obvious where this review is going. The food is GOOD (but not excellent). The setting is pleasant. The wine is excellent.

The service, though friendly, is TERRIBLE. We had three courses and were there for over three hours. Even in the context of an un-rushed, relaxed evening's dining, this snail's pace was excessive. From asking for the bill, it took almost twenty minutes for us to finally leave. Considering the place was only half full, this is a joke.

Anyway - to return to the food, and so end on a more positive note:

Starters: Sea Food Platter - shellfish in a tasty tomato sauce. A little offputting that the langoustine was whole and uncracked, but it was sweet when I got into it. 7/10

Main: T-Bone (med/rare) with porto sauce - yes, I know T-Bone isn't exactly fine dining but I hadn't had one for many years. Well prepared (yes, it WAS med/rare) and tasty. Sauce ok. My wife had a chicken skewer, which was reported to be "ok"

Dessert: Tiramisu - v pleasant but didn't wow.

Total - £72. A nice evening soured somewhat by poor service. We won't be going again

Having recently gone to a u2 concert in cardiff, myself and my partner thought we would give portugese cuisine a try, and WOW!!!!! what a fantastic choice...we had squid and mussels as a starter which were to die for, followed by the beef on a skewer with garlic butter, which melted in your mouth.....overall fantastic service, fantastic food, a bit pricey, but you pay for what you get........please open in sheffield....we need you!!!!!

ate here last night for a birthday treat for my other half. had asked to be seated upstairs when i booked but was told no when we arrived. staff were friendly but didnt really make you feel welcome.

was told garlic mushrooms were not on starter menu but on ordering starters was then told pate was off to so third attempt to order and porta bella rice dish was also off.

i bit fed up by now so ended up with prawn cocktail. very nicely presented but not worth £4.50 no bread just small plate of prawns. hubby had tiger prawns again very nicely presented but only 4 small prawns so again not worth the money,

main meals were thank goodness very nice sauce for fillet steak was fab. chicken dish with tomatoes & cheses very nice but very small dish of veg to go with it in fact we had one small piece of cauliflower in batter each lol.

then pudding went for homemade tiramisi. NO WAY HOME MADE IN FACT IT WAS FROZEN SOLID. nice taste but not what u would expect.

so all in all it was a 6/10 when u spend over £60 for meal u want to feel really

happy and we were disappointed

Had a meal there last night, got to say its not as good as the old Portos. Had the Espetandas - fillet beef kebabs - dangle from a hook above your table - very very nice - but the cauliflower in batter and potatoes wasnt the same, service was dreadfully slow, 40 minutes for starters! Waiter kept saying everyone arrived at the same time, well who booked them all in at the same time??

Would go there agin, atmosphere great, staff very friendly, but come on Porto's Due you've got a tough act to follow!
