Scalini's

Utterly awful on so many levels - THIS IS NOT A "HIGH END" ITALIAN RESTAURANT!

It is simply a glammed up frozen fish outlet, serving overpriced meals on small plates and don't get me started on the service (rude) and drinks (little choice/huge markup!) there!

Despite its modern interior (and ghastly exterior) this place does not serve genuine Italian food - and I have been told that certainly no self respecting Italian living in Cardiff would venture there, which is the quality mark for any Italian restaurant surely!

Don't be fooled by the board outside claiming various awards etc anybody can put a pretence on for a day for the critics, keeping customers happy so they become regulars is a far more difficult task!

Excellent food, the taste is amazing, if I had a hundred thumbs I would be sticking them up. It's a relaxed environment stylish bar. The staff are welcoming and respectable. They also give you the choice of whether to poor your own drinks or not. Scalini's is an amazing and relaxed restaurant to enjoy fine music and great Italian style food.

We have been eating at Scalini's for the last few years. The service is always impeccable and the food is excellent. Without a doubt a fabulous dining experience.

We highly recommend that you try Scalini's, you don't know what you're missing!!

The food was really good. The portions are sumptuous and tasty. The service was very good. They show you the days' special menu, so that you actually see what you may get if you order the Chef's special menu for the day. It is pricey. i guess you get what you pay for. I would definitely consider going again.

This was our second meal at Scalini’s in two weeks. The first meal was very nice, but the second meal (main course) was poor. My wife had pan fried breast of chicken in a sauce, but the chicken appeared to have been steamed as it was totally white, and the sauce appeared to be out of a packet, as it was very glutinous.

An excellent Italian restaurant. Pricey but the food and service is the best we have had in Cardiff. If you're after a pizza, go somehere else, this place operates at the higher end of the market. The only dissappointment was the lack of a reasonable priced sparkling wine; with starting prices at £26. It is very much beauty and the beast; a lovely interior hidden by a fairly gruesome exterior. In our 20 years in Cardiff we have never considered going here, purely because it looks so scruffy, but now that we have been we certainly will go again. A hidden gem.

One of the great delights of Italian food is that there should be a good Italian restaurant on virtually every doorstep. Situated in a residential area close to Roath Park Lake in Cardiff, this is exactly what good local food should be.

Authentic Italian in every way, the fish specials are a delight. The quality of service is second to none, and judging by the steak I had this evening, the food is also of top quality.

By all means, try the many chain Italian style restaurants that now reside in Mermaid Quay, but for real quality and value for money (this is not a cheap restaurant) this is the place to choose.
