avoid like the plague! Absolutely awful..

food was dire, service was poor, even other diners were barely touching their meals. For an Italian restaurant it is seriously lacking italian dishes..

Went to eat in mediterraneo in Penarth and to say we were disappointed was an understatement our starters were bland and i ordered tuna for my mains and it looked like tuna from a tin along with this we sat upstairs and had a near view of the fridges which wasn't the best so overall might give it another try but won't rush as i have other places on my list first

Every time I have eaten here I've thoroughly enjoyed my meal. On my last visit I had the hake main course which was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The vegetables and potatoes accompanying my meal were divine and absolutely perfectly cooked. The staff were very friendly and the wine choices were varied and the Pinot Grigio I drank was wonderful and chilled perfectly. I was excited as well on my last visit to see that Mediterraneo have also opened a new restaurant and hotel next door called Water's edge and have heard they'll be opening soon in Whitchurch. The location of Meditteraneo in Penarth is ideal but as Whitchurch is much nearer to my home I expect to be eating there plenty when it opens. But for a special occasion and for the lovely ambiance of eating on Penarths seafront Meditteraneo is perfect.

A small group of us visited this place primarily based on the reviews I read here, but also because the location is fantastic. We sat upstairs and were able to watch the sailing boats out in the channel. Even though it was quite busy when we arrived the service was swift and the staff were happy and polite.

The food was really well cooked, I had the salmon bruschetta to start and a seafood pasta for main course which was really tasty. I could really taste all the different the flavours on the plate. I'm going to struggle to not order this next time we go there.

I don't go to too many restaurants so I can't comment on the relative value (versus other places) but I will say that it didn't seem overpriced.

Absolutely fabulous, I would like to thank all positive comments below because that's why I choose to take my wife there.

Fantastic location, we had two glasses of wine alfresco on the front with candles on the table and christmassy lights lighting up all Penarth front it was also a beautiful evening, you could have been mistaken for any Spanish resort (if you don't look to closely to the colour of the Bristol Channel)...We went inside where we found, as said before, very friendly staff serving suburb hot fresh food. We both started with a mozzarella bruschetta which was one of the best I've tasted. Followed by (me) a chicken Cleopatra, which was on the large size and delicious with seasonal veg with a side of sauteed potatoes. My wife thoroughly enjoyed a chicken pasta dish which was full of freshly prepared veg.

The menu was extensive to say the least, full of classics and modern. We then took the remnants of our (2nd) bottle of wine out to the sea front again and finished what was a suburb evening with a surprise bill, very very reasonable.

It's such a joy to read reviews and find the same yourself, it rarely happens, I almost gave up on these review sites but my faith is restored...thank you.

my partner and myself called in for an Easter Monday lunch. We were approached quickly and seated promptly. The staff were very attentive polite and happy, our drinks were served quickly, our order was taken when we were ready and the starters of whitebait and garlic bread soon followed. The food was hot and prepared to a very high standard from very fresh ingredient's the main course of fillet steak soon followed along with extra drinks, the steak was perfectly cooked as per our request and the sauces and vegetables were stunning. The bill arrived and we were more than happy to leave a tip .

It was a pleasure to go to a restaurant full of happy attentive staff serving fresh superbly prepared food in a relaxing friendly atmosphere which is also family friendly. Thanks to all the staff for a great culinary experience and see you all soon.
