Lorenzas

Went to Lorenzas last night for our anniversary. Quite disappointing. We ate off the main menu and tbh I think we'd have done better off the two for £10.95 one. Starters were "OK" but nothing special - my wife had carpaccio and I had prosciutto but the main courses were poor - in fact I'd say they contravened the Trade Descriptions Act. I had veal in a cream and wild mushroom sauce - there weren't many "wild mushrooms" or any mushrooms at all actually and the cream was not existent. I think the sauce had been thickened with cornflour and didn't have much else in it. My wife had filet steak in Marsala cream and wild mushroom sauce and her sauce was much the same except it tasted sweet. Oddly for an Italian restaurant, there wasn't a hint of garlic in anything! Maybe they'd run out of garlic, wild mushrooms and cream! Or perhaps the chef was having a day off (or an off-day!). Then we had the Movenpic ice cream and they even managed to spoil that by adding that cheap squirty "cream" from the aerosol. One waitress kept saying "Is everything ok for you guys!" When anyone one could see I was the only "guy". Pretty disappointing really as we've had good meals there previously.

Ate there on Sunday 28th May and it seemed to be the only Italian opened on a Sunday evening. Although the food was nice I found you didn't get alot for your money and when I ordered the vegetable terrine for starters it wasn't a terrine at all. They were late bringing the steak out with the other mains as the chef forgot but he didi kindly bring over two lamb chops while we waited! If you want an excellent Italian, it must be La Lupa.

Having frequented Lorenzas for the past year, I can honestly say that i am yet to have a meal that hasn't satisfied either myself or my partner. The quailty and freshness are among the best in the capital. An ideal place for that romantic evening meal and even a great place to luch mid-week.
