From the time my husband and myself entered the dining room on Wednesday 14/07/10 lunchtime - lovely wine langunilla rioja recommend by our host Marlene - she sat us to a nice table for two - informed us as what was to do - the whole day was fab - lovely meal from starters to main course I don’t think it would have mattered what we had chosen it was all exceptional to look at and what was on the board - brandy and coffee to round the meal off was the end of a good meal with warmed glasses. All I can say is we will make this a regular place to eat when shopping in town on lunch times from now on - and Marlene made the whole thing great with her presence and helpfulness - she will go far.

I have just read the reviews and cannot believe how bad some of them are. I have eaten there many times. The service has always been excellent and the quality of the food is always very good. I have no doubt from my dealings with the management, that if there was a problem they would put it right. It is a brilliant place to go before and after a rugby international.

Had lunch at La Fosse today for the first time and came away with mixed feelings. It seemed there was no choice for how you preferred your steak - the board stated 'cooked medium' so that was quite odd. When said steak arrived it was actually pretty rare, which I prefer anyway, but I can see some diners being unhappy with this.. The steak was very tasty until I got to the last mouthful or so, which had a gone-off taste to it, not very pleasant. The lamb shank was delicious. However, the chips were quite hard, definitely not cooked properly. There was also no bread on the table, which isn't too much to ask surely?!. Garlic mushroom starters were very nice but could have done with some bread to soak up the delicous juices. Service was excellent and there's a nice ambiance about the place. Also good value for money at £38.00 for 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 large glasses of wine and a couple of beers . All-in-all, there are far worse places to eat in Cardiff but I don't know if I'll be rushing back next week.

I was very much looking forward to dining at La Fosse but came away disappointed. The food was over-priced and if I'm honest not the to the best standard. My medium steak appeared so rare I thought it was going to leap off the plate. The staff although polite didn't seem particularly interested. Best thing about the night was the company, and I'd taken that with me!!!!!!!

I have eaten at La Fosse on many occasions and find the Sunday Lunch menue to be particulary good value for money. The veg platter is always fresh and the Lamb Shanks are cooked to perfection. There may be better in Cardiff at a price but when you consider you'll pay the same sort of money for a boil in the bag and frozen steak meal (yes they are Mr Brain) in many off our galloping pub chain resteraunts then things slot into perspective.

Have eaten at La Fosse a few times over the years, sometimes before or after events at St Davids Hall - though increasingly they don't seem to welcome customers after events at the Hall. So, it is a good location and I am always surprised at how empty it is.
Maybe, I should not be surprised, as the standard of service and food is distinctly mediocre, and the setting depressing.
The salmon I had for my main course on this occasion did not taste fresh - however, what really disappointed was the fresh vegetable platter (Carrots, cauliflour, brocolli etc). These had absolutely no taste. When my companion and I mentioned this to our waiter he shrugged and said what could we expect as the way food is prepared at La Fosse means you cannot expect food to be fresh and tasty. I was amazed at this comment. We decided to go without a dessert! On our way out the waiter said to us 'Don't have the vegetables on your next visit'! There won't be another visit.
