La Brasserie

My Husband booked the Le Brasserie for our Ruby Wedding celebration and we were both disappointed. I have used the Brasserie on many occasions both on a corporate and personal basis and have always sung it's praises so I was delighted when he booked this restaurant for such a milestone event.

Pros: Food as always good as I would expect for the cost. Well cooked and plenty of choice. Wine list fine.

Cons: Poor service from the waiting staff. On entry to restaurant told to sit anywhere. I said we had booked but no name was taken. We found a table half furnished with cutlery and had not been cleaned from previous diners and a burnt out candle. After a while a waitress gave us a grubby menu to choose from. Ordered food and drinks. One drink was incorrect but hey ho we all make mistakes.

The first course Giant king prawns and salad very messy (Delicious) I had to ask for serviettes and cutlery which arrived then we waited and waited trying to catch the eye of the non existant waitress for a bowl to wash your hands before the second course arrives and water bowl and second course arrived together. Table had not been cleared from previous course and was messy asked waitress for another drink which never arrived. We had also ordered side dishes some of which were not delivered .

So what happened to the experience of being warmly greeted and shown to your booked table the waiter/waitress lighting your table candle and of being directed to the food selection bar where to were binded with such choice from the menu on the wall behind. The experience of choosing your dish to be cooked for you and then plyed with drinks. Perhaps this is only meant for corporate events and not for the mere couple celebrating a special event in their lives.

Went for a quick easy lunch and got just that. They do a great 8.95 lunch menu 2 courses which was something for everyone.

Glad i went and i have been back had the same service and food which were both very good.

Dont bother... How this restaurant can substantiate charging approx £30.00per head lunchtime, for such sub standard food is incredible. Rude, unfriendly waiter, who was difficult to find and had broken english.

Soup arrived after a while, cold. We had to look for the waiter for bread.

Steaks arrived, and to be honest, for £20 each, you would be better off going to a bog standard pub and paying £5 each. Fatty, not well cooked and questionable whether they were fillets.

No atmosphere, overpriced food, rude waiter, what more can you want for a £105 bill.

Never again will be visit this place. Be warned, stay away.

On Thursday last week, I took four clients to The Brasserie for an early lunch before the cricket in Cardiff!

Arriving at 12.30 we ordered fours simple main courses from the unfriendly waiter. An hour later and after numerous requests for the food, it eventually arrived - undercooked and cold.

A poor attempt at an apology was given and the party left promptly. Unfed and unimpressed.

I WILL NEVER RETURN THE THE BRAS' IN ST MARY ST.

Such a shame that such a good place could fail so miserably, particularly with hardly anyone else dining!!

La Brasserie is a restaurant with a vibrant and inviting atmosphere, the menu is classic and well thought out, the winelist is exciting and tempting and the service is friendly and efficient. What more could you ask for? Go eat there!
