We have always enjoyed our visits to the Ffynon Wen but on the last occaision I discovered, two days after our visit on the 5th April 2011, that we had not just paid for one meal but both.

Moral of the story - Check your bill before you pay.

Badly done Ffynon Wen!

When we arrived we thought what a nice pub. The girl that first greeted us was very nice. Then it went down hill. We were put in a seating area which we had to squeeze in, both my husband and my friend's husband are tall big men. My friend and myself had to squeeze in and felt very trapped. Then came the waiter, who would not let us have separate bills. We have not had any problem with that at any other restaurant we have been. Then when the food came, some of the food we ordered did not arrive. We had to ask, when we eventually found a waiter. Then with the desert we ordered coffees, which did not come, but they were on our bill at the end. All the waiter was concered with was the big table of people celebrating a birthday. There was only them and us in the restaurant, we felt left out and there was not a very nice atmosphere. We will not be going to the restaurant again. They should learn to treat all customers the same. Very disppointed. Food not much to write home about either I have to add.

Had a great meal there last week. Superb steaks and desserts to die for !

Some of the friendliest, hardest working staff I've seen in a while.

It will definitely become a regular haunt of ours as we have just moved to the area.

20/08/2010

Heard that the food service etc was second to none, enquired via email for table booking information for 8-10 people for my birthday meal with family.

Very quick helpful response via email which was encouraging service.

Booked table via email, got there and even though table was secluded off it was very very crampt to get passed, wot did they expect with 3 children? We all know kids want to get up back n forth the toilet every 2 mins and cant sit still despite how much you try to keep them seated.

Tables were extremly sticky and clearly not been wiped down for a very long time. Prehaps a bit more thought next time?.... you knew your had a large party booked!

You can not pay seperate for meals just one final bill which is tricky when there are so many of you, We were asked to move to the lounge area if we wanted seperate bills, ummm no...were the customers and booked a table... you accomadate us. Why couldn't they just go to the other till for us?

We stayed at table booked in resturant, meals were buy one get one free but would say value for money.

*Kids spag bal looked like a cheap value meal microwaved... but niece enjoyed so left it at that.... but there were no crunchy carrot sticks as offered, how do you expect a 5 yr old to eat mixed peppers that were offered as a replacement when we had to ASK where is the rest of the meal was 15 mins later.

*Fish pie is served with gravy? strange comination but gravy did not arrive...... just fresh seasonal veg ( school dinner carrots n hard garden peas) and a very very miniscule portion dry no sauce burnt and rubbery fish pie. poor mother in law had been looking forward to that meal for weeks as we couldn't get a table a few weeks ago.

* Mixed grill items were nice though gammon steak etc

* My chicken n garlic prawns were succulent and moist, but fresh seasonal veg like school dinner and new potatoes were hard and undercooked.

* Fish n chips fish flakey and looked very nice n crispy batter

* There is a charge for condiments!!!!!!!! how bizzare!!!!!!

* We complained of course, staff offered a replacement fish pie, which we declinded as we would of all finished eating by the time another was cooked and served. So a full refund was kindly offered.

Final bill come ........ no refund as promised. Waitress had suddenly disapeared so we asked another waitress to explain who called for a manager,

20 mins later we went and asked again for the manager, he was extremly rude and arragont, insiting there was nothing wrong with the meal and we had not been offered a refund... rubbed my bro in law up the wrong way! He calmly explained it was not the money it was the principle that we were out to enjoy a nice birthday meal in a upmarket establishment and were fully disapointed. He basically threw us out and asked us to leave only refunding half price of one meal.

Manners and a simple apology goes along way... no doubt we are banned from there now, but not to worry we wont be going back!

I went with my husband & children to the ffynnon wen on fri/26/3/10 at 5.,30pm

we were taken to the bar area not the restaurent, which is what you'd expect at that time of the day, waitress was lovely, children were able to walk around freely ,and the meals we had sirloin steak kids had chicken dinner was mouthwatering, dont know how some reviews were so bad as it was lovely and i have ate at gordon ramsay's with guest stars like madonna whilst we were there, and yes we sat at the bar area too but as i stated we arrived at 5.30.

all i can say is beautiful little public house, chef deserves a pat on the back, waitressess & barstaff 10/10

will be back soon

Well i dont know where the woman below went to but it was certainly not the Ffynnon Wenn.

I must say that the girls there are fantastic, so friendly and always have smiles on their faces. The atmosphere is Great. You can see that they all work together to make sure you enjoy your meal, that the place is tidy and communicate to the customers who are polite and respect them very well.

Last time my husband and I went there there was one family who were very rude. Moving chairs complaining about where they were put to sit even though it was busy and already fully booked. One waitress politely went up to them and asked if they could move the chair back as it would create health and safety problems, but of course because they were not getting their own way the were very rude to her and swore very loudly. It was very upsetting to see the girl's face as she had been called such horrid things.

They food for the price is very good, i enjoyed my rump steak as did my husband, it is fast service concidering a lot of people like to go there. After my meal i even thanked the chef. And gave the girls a tip to share between them as they were very good and i enjoyed my stay.

I have recommended this to many of my friends who have been and have thanked me for telling them about this fantastic place. I cant wait to go again.

Do you want the experience from hell? Then look no further than the Fynnon Wen. At first I was optimistic when I saw this lovely looking restaurant in nice grounds, but unfortunately my optimism was soon thwarted by the frankly disapointing service of the staff. I think the best way to portray my experience in the restaurant is to outline my visit and what went wrong.

When we arrived as a group of 7 we were greeted by a rather solemn looking waitress. She proceeded to escort us to the restaurant area and then informed us that the tables in the restaurant couldn't accomodate all of our party. So she suggested that we go to the lounge for our food, where we would have to report to the bar if we had any orders.

We were met with the surliest bartender you could possibly imagine, and I'm not exaggerating. When the meals were brought to us by some rather dull looking waitresses we requested an extra side-portion of chips. They continued to tell us that we had to order at the bar as they didn't take requests due to their unspoken faith towards the restaurant.

Also of worthy mention is the matter of the christmas crackers. In the restaurant, besides the admittedly neat, arranged cuttlery were several christmas crackers. Now the children wanted some christmas crackers so I asked that we have some brought to us, only to leave them with a rather blank expression as they gawked in awe at our request. They soon after replied in there monotonous voices that the crackers were only available if you're eating in the restaurant. Quite frankly, the only reason that we weren't eating in the restaurant is because they couldn't accomodate 7 guests - we were paying for our meals at the same price as those who could be seated in the restaurant.

The manager was present and was equally as indifferent as the rest of the staff and ultimately it felt more like a morgue than a restaurant. So we've discovered that the staff aren't exactly top-notch but what about the meal?

All seven meals were absolutely dreadful; hot chips and cold steak, "meal size" is more like children's portions and they were generally unappetising. There's not much else I can say about the meals but putting it short they were abysmal.

May I make three suggestions for the manager and staff -

1. Please find out the meaning of customer care.

2. Practice your social skills.

3. If all else fails, find another career. You certainly aren't winning in this one.

P.S - By all means you don't have to enjoy your job, but don't bring everyone else down with you.

I went for a meal at th Ffynnon Wen Satturday 17th October 2009 and i can honestly say that it was the worst meal i have ever eaten or not eat as the case may be.

When we arrived my partner and i were shown to a window seat our drinks order were taken by who i can only presume to be the head waitress or restaurant manager and she couldn't do enough for us. Our starters were brought with no problem and when we had finished i saw the chef (?) pour what i thought was soup into a dish little did i realise that this was the gravy for my steak and ale pie, chips and peas, when my food arrived it was swimming in gravy and when i scrapped it off the top the plate was flooded. I couldn't eat the meal as the taste of the gravy, which was vile, was overpowering everything else on the plate.

I realised that so much gravy had been put on to take away or moisten the fact the pie case was empty with a grey mush inside it and that the pastry was dry and hard.

I left the food and when the waitress came over , a young girl whos first night it was, who i must add was lovely i explained why i couldn't eat, she reported it to a foreign waitress who i have seen before and when i asked her again what would happen she wasn't sure.

The management ignored me and my partner for the rest of the night is what happened and left that poor new girl deal with my requests and queries.

The restaurant manager when i asked for the bill ignored me when she had looked straight at me when i was speaking ! I really don't know what i'm more annoyed about the food or the management. I work in Customer Service but I didn't receive Customer Service of any kind

My family and i mean all of my family have used the Ffynnon Wen for years but believe me we won't be using it again
